Twin Brothers Marry Twin Sisters With Unusual Living Arrangement
| LAST UPDATE 03/08/2023
When one set of identical twins married another, people had lots of questions. But when it came to Brittany and Briana's unusual marriages, the sisters soon took their situation to a new extreme…
Attached at the Hip
Ever since Brittany and Briana Deane were little girls, they did everything together - and we mean absolutely everything. They were identical twins who, from a young age, always did things as a pair.
In an interview with TLC, Brittany said, "Me without Briana is not perfectly me." From their outfits to becoming attorneys, Brittany and Briana did everything identically. "We would dream about these identical princes would find us, and we'd be whisked away but like together," they revealed. Would their childhood dream come true?
Love at First Double Sight
Brittany and Briana would attend the Twins Day Festival in Twinsburg, Ohio, every year since 2011. It is the world's largest annual gathering of twins and celebrates the unique honor of being a twin. But the 2017 Twins Day Festival would change everything for the girls.
They arrived at the night party when suddenly something caught Brittany's attention. She grabbed her twin's wrist - which they later explained was something they do when excited. The girls watched and waited as two charming young men walked toward them. Sparks were flying in the air that night.
Out of Our League
Josh and Jeremy Salyers had never attended the Twins Day Festival before that fateful year in 2017. When the identical twin boys were at the party, all they wanted was a photo with the two beautiful blonde twins they spotted across the room. The boys told TLC, "And that was the icebreaker, at least."
They thought the photo was the only thing they would get from the girls. "They were way out of our league," they admitted to the cameras. However, there was an immediate attraction between them. Josh and Brittany were drawn to each other... while Jeremy and Briana felt an attraction between them.
Twins Charming
Not only were Josh and Jeremy twins like Brittany and Briana, but they also enjoyed doing everything with their counterpart. They preferred to wear matching outfits and make decisions together. They liked doing activities together and spending as much time with the other twin as possible.
Jeremy said about his twin brother, Josh, "He's always been like number one. And any other relationship with any singleton I've had, they've been number two." Josh agreed, "I mean, that's just real." Now that they connected with twins who shared similar values, would this be their happily forever after?
Making Moves
After the festival ended, the girls couldn't help but wonder if the boys liked them just as much as they enjoyed them. They didn't have to wait very long for an answer. When they got home, there was already a message waiting for them from Jeremy and Josh.
The boys said it was great to meet the girls and that they wanted to get to know them better at next year's festival. To which the girls responded, "Why wait?!" So, the two sets of twins arranged plans to meet up. Josh and Jeremy drove the long 8 hours it took to get to Brittany and Briana to spend the weekend together.
Double Dates
After that wonderful weekend together, they quickly all fell into relationships with each other. The boys lived in Tennessee, while the girls resided in Virginia. But they would frequently make the long car ride to visit their girlfriends. And it didn't take them all that long to realize they had fallen in love.
"We all knew pretty quickly this is it," one of the girls recalled. They would double date and were having the time of their lives. The girls' mom, Debra, told PEOPLE, "It was an incredible joy for me and my husband to see our daughters and Josh and Jeremy fall in love."
An Inexplicable Bond
Twins have a bond unlike any other. Identical twins Brittany and Briana were always nervous that they would never find people who understood what they shared - until they met Jeremy and Josh. Brittany told PEOPLE, "I think that they experienced a lot of the same challenges dating what we call singletons, that means non-twins."
She continued, "It's hard when you're dating someone, and they don't understand the twin bond." Who better to understand what they share than twins? That's why since the girls were in kindergarten, they wanted to marry a set of identical twins. Their wish was about to come true.
Twinfinity
After around 6 months of dating and falling madly in love, the two boys were ready to ask the girls to marry them. They returned to where they had their first date at Virginia's Twin Lakes State Park. "They proposed on February 2nd, so that's a fitting date. 0-2-0-2." The date was even in doubles!
Even the rings showed the special bond that the twins share. Brittany and Briana have matching "twinfinity" rings. Their engagement rings are in the shape of a double infinity sign, and "it represents two forevers… so it's very symbolic for us," Brittany told TLC.
Twice Upon a Time
It was time to plan the wedding! Even that came easy to the sisters. Briana told PEOPLE, "A lot of the wedding planning was extremely fun and even peaceful for Brittany and I to do together because we have the same taste." The brides wore matching gowns, and their grooms had matching tuxes.
After planning and preparation, they had a double wedding, fulfilling Brittany and Briana's lifelong dream. 6 months after Jeremy and Josh proposed and a year after meeting, they were married at the 2018 Twins Day Festival. The wedding had a special theme to it - Twice Upon a Time.
Against All Odds
Brittany recalled, "We knew that the chances were incredibly scarce. The stars had to align for our dreams to come true. I get to marry the man of my dreams, and at the same time I get to look over next to me and see my twin sister marrying the man of her dreams."
It was a day full of love and joy for the two couples. The twins loved doing everything together. Once they were married, they had the rest of their lives to live out their fairytale. Except, there was only one way that they were willing to do it - together.
Moving Day
As for what came next? Of course, the foursome moved into a house in Virginia. Brittany, Briana, Jeremy, and Josh wanted the rest of their lives to be spent all together. This had been the plan all along. Brittany told NBC News, "It was something we all four wanted, and when we got engaged, we all wanted it that way."
She continued, "It's something that's very nice. [Josh and Jeremy] understand the twin bond like we do. We get to have a lot of together time." Not only do they live together, but they also work together. Brittany and Briana practice law at the same law office, while Josh and Jeremy run a business.
Behind Closed Doors
Briana told Fox News they had to adapt to all the change when they first moved in together. She recalled, "I would say that our first few months of marriage have been a whirlwind of fun and getting used to being married and the four of us living together, that dynamic."
The best part about living together? The quality time they got to enjoy, not just with their twins but as a foursome. Brittany added, "With all 4 living together under one roof, there's a lot of double dates." They no longer needed to invite friends over to have enough players for game night!
Date Nights
While the twins loved to spend time as a group, they also prioritized time with their partners. Brittany recalled her first one-on-one date with Josh. She was a bundle of nerves! She confessed, "Without Briana, I just feel a little bit insecure. I feel like Josh is so cool, and I'm just a dork."
It may seem unusual to most, but it worked perfectly for the four of them. Brittany told PEOPLE, "Not everyone is used to how we work together as twins and now as a family of twins. We have a lot of unspoken communication between ourselves and understand each other well."
Laughing Off the Hate
Even though they were happy with their situation, many people in the public didn't understand and had hurtful things to say to the couples. But luckily, the foursome had a strong support system within their family unit and tried to avoid giving negative comments any attention.
Brittany told NBC News, "We try to ignore sociopathic stalker comments and just focus on the positive. Some people think we are really strange, and others think it's really amazing. We've gotten a lot of support and interest, and we've been grateful for that."
“Next Huge” Milestone
Now that Brittany and Briana had found their knights in shining armor, the princes in their own personal fairytales, they had everything they could ever want. Well, almost everything. The two girls had also dreamed of having children at the same time.
Brittany told the Australian show Today, "We have experienced most milestones of our lives together, birthdays, getting our driver's licenses, graduations, and our double wedding. This would be the next huge event, and we'd love to experience it together, and ideally, we will."
Twins for the Twins?
Not only did they want to have kids at the same time, but the couples had an even more specific wish in mind. Jeremy told TLC, "We want to have twins, and we want them to be born on the same day." Now that would be a miracle if these twins could pull that off!
The odds of each couple having twins on the same day were not in their favor, but they ended up getting pretty dang close. They posted a joint birth announcement on Instagram, writing in the caption, "Guess what!!?? BOTH couples are pregnant!" However, it took a lot of strength to get to this point...
Tough Times
Before they shared the exciting news of their double pregnancy, each couple suffered a terrible loss. Briana and Brittany both experienced miscarriages during the early stages of their pregnancies. "It was very hard, and it was something that we were all going through," Briana told PEOPLE.
She added, "There was a lot of stress that went along with the timing and the dream of having overlapping pregnancies and then the miscarriages." A few weeks later, Brittany found out she was pregnant. Would Briana become pregnant so they could fulfill their dream?
Welcoming Jett & Jax
The answer was yes! Soon after, Briana learned that she was pregnant. While the boys ended up being a few months apart, the parents were overjoyed regardless. Brittany and Josh welcomed a baby boy, Jett. Briana and Jeremy also welcomed a baby boy, Jax.
More than 2 years into their marriages, they were about to embark on an epic new journey together - parenthood. It may not have been a set of twins for each of the twins born on the same exact day, but Jett and Jax were the next best thing to that.
Quaternary Twins
The Salyers posted an Instagram of the newborns wearing matching outfits and wrote in the caption, "Cousins, genetic brothers, and quaternary twins!" People couldn't help but wonder what any of that meant. Were Jax and Jett brothers or cousins? And what were quaternary twins?
Briana explained on NBC News, "...we have quaternary twins. They were born to identical twin parents..." Additionally, the two boys were cousins - but they were technically closer to siblings, genetically speaking. While they did not have the same DNA, there was a good chance they'd grow up looking similar.
Family Unit
For the two families, they viewed themselves as a big family unit. Jeremy told Entertainment Tonight in 2021, "I feel like I'm Jett's parent. And I think he [Josh] feels the same way about Jax. We all live together, and we are raising the kids together."
He continued, "It's the four of us with our two babies." Jeremy's wife, Briana, explained to PEOPLE, "Identical twins, in particular, come into this world never knowing what it was like to be alone. Our more natural state is the togetherness, and that helps us."
Splitting the Responsibilities
It helps to always have an extra set of hands to help with anything from changing diapers to babysitting. The Salyers had four sets of hands available at all times to help with childcare! They leaned on each other for all kinds of help, something that some people found controversial.
Brittany and Briana revealed on Extreme Sisters that they would share nursing duties. Briana gushed, "One of the best things about having two moms in the house is that we have four [breasts]. We breastfeed each other's babies because we feel like they're both, both of our babies."
Got Milk?
While taping Extreme Sisters, Briana asked her twin, "Do you think our milk tastes the same? I mean, it must." Brittany didn't hesitate to respond. "I figure it does. We share DNA, so it's like we're producing the same milk. It's just no big deal for us."
These weren't the only parenting duties that they shared. They were raising their kids as if they were the parents of both boys. They shared an adorable moment on Instagram where baby Jett said, "Two dadas!" about his dad and uncle. He did the same when his mom and aunt came on camera, exclaiming, "Two mamas!"
Ammy & Duncle
Since their living situation was unique, they also acknowledged that their titles would differ from an ordinary family. The aunt and uncles were more than just an aunt and uncle to their nephews. Briana explained, "We're still working on what our children will call of us. Mommy and ammy works really well."
Ammy was their twist on aunt and mom. While ammy sounded super cute, the names for Josh and Jeremy were still a work in progress. Briana continued, "We've been talking about what are the dads going to be - daddy and dadsy, or daddy and duncle." They decided to take some time to decide.
Reality Stars
Briana and Brittany were soon featured on the TLC show Extreme Sisters. The show highlighted the special bond that the girls shared. Brittany and Josh's and Briana and Jeremy's double wedding was also featured in an hour-long special on TLC titled Our Twinsane Wedding.
After they became reality stars, their fans loved keeping up with their lives off the camera. They started an Instagram account @salyerstwins, where they posted funny videos, life updates, and family photos to over 230k+ followers. So, what is life really like as twins married to and living with twins?
Accidental Mix-Ups
While the four parents loved their situation, they did admit a hilarious detail! During an appearance with Australia's Today show, they were asked the following question by host Karl Stefanovic, "It's late Friday night, you've had a few Margaritas... have you ever accidentally mixed each other up?"
After a slight pause, Briana responded, "Do we mix each other up? Maybe just from the side." It is bound to happen even for twins who spend the majority of their time together! Although, most of the time, there was no trouble knowing who was who, even for the two little boys.
Cashing In
Not only did the two families live and co-parent together, but they also ran a business together! They bought the Smith Mountain Manor in 2021. It was a country estate in central Virginia near Smith Mountain Lake. They completely renovated and transformed the manor into a wedding venue, which also served as their home.
Jeremy and Josh primarily ran the weddings at the manor. And the grounds were exquisite! They had various amenities, including gardens, grassy lawns, and a pool. Meanwhile, Brittany and Briana worked at the same law firm and carpooled into the office together. When they weren't working, the four parents cared for their family unit.
Nothing To Hide
In addition to their daily routine and jobs, the Salyers loved to keep their fans updated on their lives. From posting hilarious videos to sharing professional photoshoots, they were extremely open about their living situation. They knew how they lived could sound strange to others, but they loved their arrangement.
They also created a separate account for the manor, showing off the happy couples who had gotten married on its grounds. While the family themselves didn't appear on its Instagram, they loved to share with people how these fairytale couples could make all of their wishes come true on their special day!
Questions Emerge
People were completely invested in what the family did. They grew curious about their living arrangement. The comments on their Instagram page became flooded with questions. One user asked, "When you met - did you gravitate towards one? How did you match up? Chemistry?"
Another one asked, "Do y'all dress the same nearly everyday? If so, who gets to decide the outfit?" They have since been featured in PEOPLE magazine and appeared on countless television programs like Fox News and the Tamron Hall Show. Viewers everywhere were fascinated by the twins who married twins and all lived together.
The "Weird" Misconception
But there was one inappropriate question that people always asked of the twins, they revealed to Fox News. Jeremy confessed, "I would say that the one that we get a lot [is that] people always ask if we switch partners. I hope we have explained ourselves that we do not!"
While they shared mostly everything in life, their partners were off-limits. The couples even had separate bedrooms apart from each other. Briana told PEOPLE, "We do like to make that clear because we get a lot of weird creepers." There's no swinging in this household!
Plans for More?
Today, Brittany and Briana are living out their fairytale lives. They have amazing twin husbands and beautiful baby boys. Briana told PEOPLE, "We do everything as a family, we're really inseparable. It's like this magical existence." So, do they have any plans to add to their family?
"We are still debating," Brittany told the magazine. She added, "We feel very fulfilled, but we're also open to another pregnancy each." Like other aspects of their lives, Josh said, "It's definitely a group decision." No matter what the group decides, they have each other for support and love...
