Inside the Lives of the “Most Identical Twins in the World”
| LAST UPDATE 08/09/2022
Lucy and Anna do everything together and even share the same boyfriend. The Australian identical twins are mirror images of each other and refuse to leave each other's sides no matter what. Here's their story.
The DeCinque Twins
Meet Anna and Lucy DeCinque, identical twins from Perth, Australia, whose inseparable bond from the day they were born has only continued into adulthood. Today, it can be seen in their everyday lives.
These twins are committed to mirroring each other in every aspect of their life, and it is apparent on their social media how much they are sharing one life. Born on July 19, 1985, the twins have shared everything - from the same womb and now, as adults, the same boyfriend! Talk about twin telepathy.
Side by Side Since Birth
Twins are famously known for standing by each other’s side; look at the classic Sister, Sister duo, Tia and Tamera Mowry! Growing up as a twin can be really difficult for some, but for Anna and Lucy, it was a blessing. They did absolutely everything together.
It is very common for parents to dress their children in similar outfits. Still, Anna and Lucy grew up wearing identical outfits, going to the same primary school, taking the same classes, and even signing up for the same beauty school. The girls never spent a moment apart.
The "Most Identical"
By the time 2015 came rolling around, Lucy and Anna DeCinque were named “The Most Identical Twins in the World” on a Japanese game show. The girls took their unbelievable relationship to the game show and completely shocked the nation with their identical intricacies.
As an outcome of the game show, they captured the media’s attention in a way they could have simply never imagined. The girls’ fame skyrocketed from their compelling story, and fans everywhere were fascinated by Anna and Lucy DeCinque’s shared experiences.
Always Getting Mixed Up
Safe to say, their shared experiences have been nothing short of striking. In fact, while most identical twins have defining factors, these sisters do not. For Anna and Lucy, they had intertwined in each other’s lives so much it was even difficult for their own parents to tell them apart at times!
Growing up, their parents commonly mixed them up. In an interview, the girls admitted that their dad, Luigi, would sometimes have to ask, “You’re which one?” We can only imagine how many times the girls pulled a Parent Trap moment and traded places at home.
Becoming Inseparable
As the twins got older, their obsession with being identical twins continued to increase. Anna and Lucy decided they were not only going to live together but also share the same bed, phone, and same social media accounts. The girls continued to dress the same and refuse to leave the house alone. Talk about a lack of privacy.
Gradually, their daily routine completely morphed into one. Besides sharing everything at home, they also shared the same job at the same nursing home! So they quite literally never needed to leave each other’s side. When one felt like taking the day off, the other would simply step in.
Identical Food Habits
Beyond doing everything together, the DeCinque twins’ habits continued to grow as one, as they were so committed to looking identical. They even maintained the same diet plan. They would order the same thing at restaurants and have it served identically to one another.
“When [Anna] feels full, I feel full too. When she stops eating, I stop eating,” Lucy once revealed. The girls have also said in an interview they only eat once a day. Despite knowing it is very unhealthy for them, they only eat at night as their mother apparently does.
A Committed Workout Plan
In addition to having the same diet, the identical sisters are devoted to having the same figure. Besides spending thousands of dollars on cosmetic surgeries and eating the same meals, Lucy and Anna are committed to working out the same amount as well.
The two go so far as to take the same number of steps each day and burn the same amount of calories in return. They are committed to working out six hours a day and have said they are “addicted to exercise” and “often feel exhausted” due to their intense lifestyles.
The Same Surgeries
The girls’ parents had difficulty telling them apart growing up, but they could still differentiate the two by a few minute details when they were young. However, this problem only enhanced as the inseparable sisters got older, especially after paying $250,000 in cosmetic surgery.
Even though the girls have disputed the exact cost of their cosmetic surgeries, they have done quite a bit that probably added up over time. In their twenties, Anna and Lucy started with lip fillers and continued to get facial tattoos for their eyebrows, eyelash and hair extensions, and breast implants, which they openly regretted.
No Pants in Sight
Along with everything else, the twins have always had the same wardrobe and taste. Anna and Lucy buy two of everything and match every day, making them even more identical! Regardless of the occasion, the girls are firm believers in not wearing pants or shorts and sticking to skirts and dresses!
With their love of fashion, the girls decided to start their own YouTube channel and share their passion with the online community. The sisters quickly gained an online following due to their charming personalities and the fact that they were mirror images of one another.
Becoming Online Stars
Between their day job as a nurse and full-time jobs morphing into one another, Anna and Lucy decided to take their talent to the online world. They started a YouTube account in 2013 and developed a following quickly, which now has 107 thousand subscribers.
The world’s most identical twins used their platform to discuss different beauty and fashion trends and lifestyle tips and tricks. As their platform continued to grow, they added fashion hauls of them trying on different outfits, weekly vlogs, easy and quick recipes for the kitchen, and more.
The Small Differences
Even though they've become inseparable and almost impossible to distinguish from one another, there have been a few ways to determine who's who. Lucy has always preferred to be photographed on the left side, leaving Anna on the right. She was also born a minute before Anna, making her the older sis!
Additionally, Lucy has always opted to sit in the car’s back seat while Anna preferred the front. Of the two, Lucy has become more financially in tune, making her in charge! Perhaps it makes sense; she is a minute older. But neither could have prepared for their journey through life, despite all of their planning and organizing.
Entering the Dating World
Dating in general is stressful, so things got a tad more complicated when the inseparable sisters began to date! As with everything else in their lives, they wanted to date together because they simply never worked without one another. Despite the challenges and anxiety linked to dating, the girls were eager to face it... together.
In the past, Lucy and Anna dated men separately but agreed it was not for them. Men didn’t fully understand their inseparable lifestyle, which wouldn’t fly. “They wanted to separate us, and they wanted to take us out separately, and we were like ‘No, we always want to be together’ It just got too hard,” Lucy explained.
Finding Their Perfect Match
Determined to find the man of their dreams, Anna and Lucy DeCinque started dating a few different men, knowing it would be a challenge with their strict requirements. However, everything changed one day when they finally met their match on Facebook, Ben Byrne.
The girls brought the big news to their YouTube channel, and people were ready to listen. Despite exposing many intimate details about their personal lives, Anna and Lucy decided not to share too many details about Ben. However, they mentioned that he was a fraternal twin himself - as well as a mechanic.
Going Public
On their first date with Ben, both Anna and Lucy felt allll the feels. According to Anna, she knew right away: “this is going to go somewhere,” she recalled. The girls told their fans that Ben was the first man they had “shared.” After their first kiss on the first date, the threesome just clicked.
After dating Ben secretly for a few months, Lucy and Anna made a joint announcement on an Australian television show that they were, in fact, dating the same man. Shortly after, their social media blew up, and people were fascinated by the unusual situation. But things continued to develop.
“The Lucky Man”
Any relationship can be complex, let alone one made up of three people. But the twins were thrilled with their new relationship, promising there was no jealousy between the three of them. According to the twins, Ben truly loved them both equally, and when he kissed one, he would kiss the other.
It didn't stop there. The throuple shared a California King-sized bed, Ben being in the middle so that he could hold both their hands. Additionally, he never separated them, so they were always a party of three when they went out. The twins said Ben calls himself a "lucky man" when defining his relationship with Anna and Lucy.
Adjusting to Their Lifestyle
Dating two women simultaneously was a first to Ben, let alone dating identical, inseparable twins. But Ben has adjusted to their unique lifestyle, according to Lucy and Anna. He even plated their food identically, just the way they liked it, and measured their orange juice to be the exact same amount. Talk about dedication!
The boyfriend of two had been nothing but committed and understanding of Lucy and Anna’s need to be together 24/7 - he could even identify who was who on the phone! The girls had described their bond with Ben as a “beautiful relationship” - even when things started to get a little rough...
Becoming Mr. & Mrs. (& Mrs.)
Fast forward a few years, and both Anna and Lucy fell completely in love with Ben. They became ready to make the greatest commitment of all. After five years of dating Ben, in 2016, the girls took to their YouTube channel to announce the big news: They would both marry Ben.
So now that the news was out, they were met with a whole lot of shock and excitement - but they felt ready for the next steps. Anna announced, “[We] finally found someone that we can really connect with” and have “definitely found [our] soulmate. We really, really have.” Wedding aside, though, would the union be legal?
Sister Wives, Literally
The brides-to-be announced their engagement in late 2016 but didn't unveil any details regarding their rare situation's exact date or location. The soon-to-be sister-wives slowly started revealing more and more information about their impending nuptials and gained more and more attention.
Being the fashionistas that they were, Lucy and Anna were determined to design their wedding gowns for the big day. In addition to the matching engagement rings chosen by Ben, the girls planned on creating matching wedding dresses. However, the law was about to get in the way of their grand plans.
"Love is Love"
As lovely as an Australian seaside wedding may sound, it turned out to be the complete opposite for Anna, Lucy, and Ben. The marriage was considered polygamist, banned years ago under the 1961 Australian Marriage Act, causing a pause in wedding planning.
“If we can change the law and the government, we’d love to marry Ben. I mean, love is love, we’re all adults. We should be able to marry the same man…We’re not hurting anyone, and this is what works for us,” Anna said regarding the relationship. The twins were determined to find a way to make it work.
Finding the Perfect Destination
Motivated to find a solution to their marital problems, Anna and Lucy took to their YouTube channel. They asked fans to drop a comment suggesting places where the throuple could say their “I do’s.” Due to this post, the twins were finally able to land on an unlikely destination to walk down the aisle.
Upon suggestions from fans, the twins considered flying thousands of miles away to Tuscon, Arizona, for the ceremony. Polygamy was also banned in Arizona, but there was no punishment for getting married. Although not legally recognized, throuples typically opted to have a “spiritual” union and simply play it safe.
"I Think It’s Beautiful"
Regardless of all of their obstacles and challenges along the way, Anna, Lucy, and Ben felt confident in their decision to get married. They were determined to do what they could do to get married. Lucy and Anna further explained their unique relationship with the ongoing buzz around their throuple.
“I think it’s beautiful, it’s not weird to us, it will never be, and we’re happy with it,” Anna said. Both Anna and Lucy agreed that they loved Ben because he genuinely understood their twin bond, which was ultimately most important to them. Unfortunately, they were soon faced with even more struggles.
Syncing Their Pregnancies
The twins managed to control every aspect of their lives, living totally in sync, but there were some road bumps: Anna and Lucy both wanted to get pregnant at the exact same time, of course - but science soon suggested otherwise, causing some issues in their schedule.
“We want to experience pregnancy together. We want our bodies to look the same because we’re so close,” the girls explained. Ben, Anna, and Lucy all recognized how difficult this would be to achieve, but as it turned out, there was someone else who had a thing or two to say about their future.
Their Mother's Thoughts
Three was clearly never a crowd when it came to the DeCinque sisters. Lucy, Anna, and Ben soon welcomed a fourth roommate, the twin's mother! She was highly supportive of her daughters' untraditional relationship and encouraged them to get pregnant at the same time and have natural births.
Besides living with their mom, the twins had an older sister who they didn't live with, but definitely worth mentioning. According to the twins, Momma DeCinque approved of her future son-in-law, and apparently, she even took his side in arguments! Even with all the excitement on the line, there was one thing the twins did regret…
Their Greatest Regret
After spending tons of cash on their overwhelming amount of cosmetic procedures, including 14 procedures in just two weeks, the girls shared they held some regrets regarding their transformations. The girls were not “ashamed of what [they] have done to [themselves], but rather regret their revolution.
“What we thought was beautiful, we now find ugly,” they revealed in an Australian magazine. Anna and Lucy admitted they “felt a bit embarrassed” about the outcome of a few of their procedures. They stated they had removed their eyebrow and lip tattoos and would not continue with lip injections as they wished to look more natural.
“It’s Kind of Hard To Live Our Lives”
Having a sister has its perks, and a twin well, we’ve all heard of twin telepathy - but sometimes there can be a rough patch. These twins were honest with their fans about everything, including the more difficult moments. While they were inseparable, the duo acknowledged that their lifestyle was not always easy.
Understandably, Lucy and Anna often faced issues regarding their extreme desire to match constantly. It would get a little exhausting - from the fashion to the beauty and the same schedule. In unison, the girls expressed to a source, “It’s kind of hard to live our lives,” and we can only imagine...
Feeling the Pressure
The identical twins were not the only ones who felt pressure to uphold a perfect lifestyle due to their unique decisions. Their soon-to-be husband, Ben, also felt overwhelmed at times by their situation. “There’s a lot of pressure on Ben, but it’s all up to him,” the girls confessed.
Dating one person can be difficult, but two? That’s a whole different story, and as much as Ben balanced his relationships with the girls, it was not easy. In addition to being with the girls emotionally and physically, he had to do everything twice - like plating identical amounts of food for the girls.
“Ben Accepts Us”
Even though their unconventional situation became tricky at times, Anna and Lucy agreed that Ben was the one. Their fiancé fully accepted them for who they were and their matching lifestyle, making him really one of a kind. The twins agreed he loved them more based on their decision to live with their sis by their side.
“Ben accepts us,” they both assured. “He does not mind that we dress alike and want to be together all of the time. We always have each other’s backs and want to be together.” As accepting as their fiancé was, he drew a line to one thing regarding the twins’ lives.
Where Does Ben Draw the Line?
The twins’ YouTube success gave the girls more of a platform to interact with their fans and share their personal stories. After their engagement with Ben, fans were even more curious about their relationship with Ben, asking the twins to feature their man in one of their videos.
While the girls often talked about Ben, he had not appeared in any videos himself. Even when filming their vlogs and vacation videos, the girls managed to keep their fiancé out of all their videos. The twins teased their fans that Ben would make an appearance if they reached 100k followers in 3 months, but it never happened.
Dealing With the Haters
Some people have found their unorthodox lifestyles absurd, and Lucy and Anna were aware of the many people who disagreed with their choices. The girls acknowledged the haters in one of their YouTube videos and claimed they were totally unbothered by them and could handle the heat.
“If you don’t like us, we don’t care. We’re just living the way we want to live our lives. So what we learned is we are so lucky to have each other, and we are so lucky to be a twin,” Anna said. The girls explained: They were unstoppable together, and nothing could separate them.
Moving Forward
In 2021, the DeCinque twins scored their own reality series on TLC, Extreme Sisters, giving audiences a closer look at their inseparable and unique bond. In the teaser, the girls explained they were so close to each other they thought of each other as the same person!
Today, the Australian twins have taken over the Internet with their unique story and accomplished their goal of never leaving each other’s side. Lucy and Anna have still not married Ben after 10 years, and the girls have yet to get pregnant at the same time. But stay tuned; we have a feeling it’s not over for these twins yet…
