Today, 8/24 (Kobe's two jersey numbers), marks the inaugural Kobe Bryant Day in Orange County, CA.

Yesterday, on what would've been the Black Mamba's 42nd birthday, Nike kicked off its Mamba Week campaign with a 90-second tribute clip narrated by LA's own Kendrick Lamar.

"Better blocker. Better sprinter. Better loser. Better winner. Just be better," Kendrick tells viewers over a montage, appropriately titled "Be Better," including portrait shots of Kobe and his late daughter, Gianna.

Another SoCal native, Snoop Dogg, delivered some bars about Kobe and his legacy for an ESPN birthday special. "The LA-X factor / dropped 81 on the Raptors," he rhymes.

Along with Nike's video came a Mamba Week-themed microsite featuring content to help fans "Be Better." There's a chat on fearlessness with Devin Booker, a special "Trained" podcast episode hosted live by Nike senior director of performance Ryan Flaherty and even daily workouts.

Their final surprise? Teasing the upcoming "5 Rings" Kobe 5 Protro sneakers in yellow and gold with laser-drawn championship accents, which are expected to arrive this fall.

For now, keep an eye on SNKRS for these five new Protro colorways, including the "Big Stage," "5x Champion" and "Girls EYBL," as well as two selections from the UNDEFEATED's "What If" pack. Too clean!
