For the first time in 17 years, the Atlanta Falcons switched up their uniform design. 👀
Ahead of the upcoming 2020 NFL season, the Falcons unveiled four new uniform options on Wednesday, which include “elements of the Falcons' past while updating the brand to match the modern progression of Atlanta."
Using their signature black, red and white color palette, they presented sets for home and away games, as well as an alternate and a throwback.
One of the most notable new features is the "ATL" that sits above the jersey number on the front, replacing the miniature "FALCONS" text that used to be in a similar position.
To celebrate the unveiling of their new drip, the Falcons also shared a hype video featuring interviews with a few high-profile Atlanta cultural figures, like Deion Sanders, Ludacris, T.I. and Jermaine Dupri.
"Atlanta is not trying to mimic LA; Atlanta is not trying to mimic Chicago; Atlanta is not trying to mimic New York. Atlanta is Atlanta," Sanders said.
Along with the uniforms, the Falcons helmets also received an update. According to Riddell Sports, the lead manufacturer of football helmets, this new piece of battle gear will feature a larger side decal and silver face mask.
While the flood of social media content may have you believe this was a well-coordinated announcement, the Falcons weren't planning to reveal their new uniforms until next week, according to Adam Schefter. But, due to leaks, they decided to expedite the news.
The Falcons weren't the only squad to switch up their look this off-season. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who recently made headlines with their signing of quarterback Tom Brady, announced their new uniforms for the upcoming season earlier this week.
Football fans weren't shy about their feelings when the Falcons' new threads dropped. Among other reactions, some said the fading red design reminded them of vintage FUBU jerseys. 😂
