On Sunday, Daquan called out an interview between French Montana and Complex in which French shared his belief that he’d “outshine” Kendrick Lamar if placed on the same festival stage. French was responding to a question about the possibility of taking on another artist in an Instagram Live hit-for-hit battle after recently defeating Tory Lanez.
“If you was to put us on a festival stage, I would outshine him ’cause I have more hits than Kendrick Lamar,” he said.
However, he did admit Kendrick is a superior rapper and his albums are “masterpieces.”
Thugger, who's apparently a dedicated Kendrick fan, caught wind of French's bold claims and fired off countless shots in a series of early Wednesday morning Instagram posts and Stories.
"French Montana, b***h ass n****a," he said in one clip. "Listen, bro. Get out of your feelings – I'm only speaking from an artist's standpoint. You do not have nowhere near more hits than Kendrick Lamar whatsoever."
In a follow-up video, Thugger asked French to "stay in your lane" and asserted that he wasn't even on the same level when it comes to handling business.
Later, he pulled up to a house that was allegedly owned by "Auntie French" at one point and claimed there was a "For Sale" sign in the front yard.
Previously, in response to Thug's IG Stories, French jokingly thanked Thug for wearing a skirt in the video for "No Stylist" and said that Thug belongs in the "Hall of Cap," referencing a recent tweet from 21 Savage crowning Thug as the "newest inductee" into the fictional club.
(Thug addressed 21's sarcastic "Hall of Cap" comment in his first IG video captioned "frenchmontana," saying the two "don't got no smoke with each other.")
Later, French offered a list of the 20 songs he would put up in a hit-for-hit battle and uploaded a photo of Thug wearing lipstick and smooching his lips together with the hashtag "#moreinfluential."
One of the other most striking claims came from Thug, who spoke on the existence of an alleged video showing French getting knocked out. He said he was planning to call Meek Mill to try and get ahold of the clip.
Though French has undoubtedly had a successful music career, it's worth noting that Kendrick holds six more top 10 hits than French and nearly three times as many Hot 100 entries.
