Less than a month before he was locked up and charged with two counts of first-degree murder in Feb. 2019, YNW Melly and Kanye dropped "Mixed Personalities" along with a Lyrical Lemonade video.

While the track turned out to be a smash with over 155 million views currently, Melly's manager says he initially denied Ye's offer to hop on the song.

Chatting with Akademiks, 100KTrack recalled the series of events that led to Ye's guest spot on "Mixed Personalities." When Ye heard the song, he was ecstatic and said, "Bruh! This is me! This is Ye! This is Kanye! This is Yeezy!"

Track and Melly could hardly believe what they were hearing. "Damn! He f***s with it?" they asked one another. "He's like, 'Bruh, I wanna jump on this."

However, they already had a rollout plan formed for "Mixed Personalities" at the time, which was going to be the lead single for Melly's album 'We All Shine,' which was slated to come out in a few weeks. So, 100KTrack boldly told Ye, "I ain't gonna lie, Ye, you can't jump on this record."

He explained, "Remember, this is his album we’re playing. We already turned in the music. I already got Cole Bennett about to shoot this video. This is one of the main singles that we believe in."

Track and Melly played a few more songs for him, like "City Girls" and "Rolling Loud," but Ye was adamant about doing "Mixed Personalities," even telling them, "Whatever I need to do, I'll get it done," and giving Track his personal phone number.

Fast-forward three years and the track has been streamed 334 million times on Spotify alone.

Melly's murder trial is set to begin in May, and things seem to be looking a bit dim. Prosecutors reportedly just filed 66 new pages of DNA evidence supporting the story that the shots that killed YNW Sakchaser and YNW Juvy in a car in Oct. 2018 were fired from Melly's seat.
