This week, Daquan's three favorite videos come courtesy of Benny The Butcher and Hit-Boy, IDK and Jaden Smith. Scroll down, sit back and please enjoy the show.
Benny The Butcher & Hit-Boy – "Legend"
To celebrate the release of their 12-song collaborative album, 'Burden Of Proof,' Benny The Butcher and executive producer Hit-Boy head back to Benny's hometown of Buffalo and enjoy the spoils of their hard work.
With Benny cruising around in a drop-top whip and meeting some of his teammates at a club, the "Legend" video is like a pandemic-era championship parade. "And I don't want nothing for free, they didn't know me then, bet they checkin' now / The best player gettin' drafted in the seventh round," Benny raps over glittering keys.
Making this song all the more special is that it was the first the pair recorded upon linking at a Los Angeles studio, acting as the catalyst for the full-length project. "The s**t was so good, we were just like, 'Let’s keep going,'" Benny recalled. Sometimes you just gotta go with the flow.
IDK – "King Alfred"
Nearly a half-century following its release, poet and musician Gil Scott-Heron's "The King Alfred Plan" feels as relevant as ever. Fueled by his pointed words, IDK crafts his own "King Alfred" anthem using ground-shaking bass, a 'Call of Duty: Warzone' reference and a Lil Yachty guest appearance to push a new generation forward.
Hollering, "We shall overcome / And if we don't b***h you better run," on the chorus, IDK assures listeners that they're unstoppable. Having just rode around in a Maybach while eating Fruity Pebbles, it's no surprise he's feeling this way.
But don't get it twisted: At 28 years old, IDK's investments are diversified. "I buy commercial real estate, not a necklace," he says, touching on his recent land grabs, like this plot in the California desert.
Jaden – "Cabin Fever"
While music fans eagerly await the return of live concerts, one silver lining that can be squeezed from 2020 is the way that artists have adapted to performing virtual sets. How else would we have been able to join Jaden on a mountaintop at sunset as he offers an acoustic rendition of "Cabin Fever"?
Surrounded by flickering rainbow colors to match the presentation of his latest album, 'CTV3: Cool Tape Vol. 3,' Jaden's soft-spoken reflections on a blooming yet strained relationship reverberate into the night sky on the back of delicate electric guitar strums. Blissful.
