Whenever a rapper wants to transform a regular song into a hit with one phone call (and some capital), they pitch singer Ty Dolla $ign. That's why he's decided to name his upcoming album 'Featuring Ty Dolla $ign.'
Ty further explained the title in an Instagram post: "I’ve been blessed with the gift of collaborating. Not every artist can collaborate with another artist and have the final product be something incredible."
"Many people have said that when you see a song that says, 'featuring Ty Dolla $ign,' you know it’s gonna be fire. As humbled as I am when I hear that, I can’t say I disagree."
He went on to write that his approach to recording is shaped by three factors, including "frequencies, emotions and energy," and that dope collaborations are "always about marrying frequencies." Those vibes help inform who's going to be featured across his projects: "I use featured artists with the same precision that I would use any instrument."
On his fourth official album, set to drop next Friday, Oct. 23, which marks the two-year anniversary of his last major release, 'MIH-TY' with Jeremih, "there is truly something for everybody," according to Ty. "It features some of my most talented friends, on some of the best music I’ve made in my career."
Several of the 38-year-old's favorite collaborators and friends like Big Sean and Lil Dicky were hyped. "Bro when I posted that pic of us and said 'Ft. Ty Dolla $ign mean [fire emojis]' I did not know that was the name of the album bro," Sean commented.
Ty likely has a few tricks up his sleeve in terms of guest artists, but he's already dropped a couple of big singles this year, i.e., "Expensive" with Nicki Minaj and "Ego Death" with Kanye West, FKA twigs and Skrillex.
