Whether you were feeling the music or not, the biggest story in hip-hop over the holiday weekend was Playboi Carti and the release of his sophomore album, 'Whole Lotta Red.'
Following months of rumors and questions of whether the project would ever arrive, Carti dropped a total of 24 intense, mosh-ready songs featuring the likes of Kanye West, Kid Cudi, Future, producer Pi'erre Bourne and even Akademiks on "Control."
Now, 'WLR' is headed for a No. 1 debut on the Billboard 200, as it's on pace to sell 135,000 units, according to Hits Daily Double. That number would likely dethrone Taylor Swift's latest album 'evermore' and mark Carti's first chart-topping release.
Need or keep? A deluxe edition of 'WLR' is already in the works, too, giving fans hope that standout leaks like "Molly," "Piru," "Cancun" and more could eventually make their way to streaming services. However, one report suggests the deluxe will only highlight unheard tracks.
If you logged on Twitter during the early hours of Christmas, moments after 'WLR' dropped, you may have seen Carti's ex-girlfriend Iggy Azalea airing him out for allegedly being a bad father and boyfriend.
Regardless of whether there's truth in the rant, Carti made it a point to start sharing some of the special moments between him and his son Onyx, like playing the piano together and (clearly) staying up past bedtime.
Going up: Just behind Playboi on the upcoming Billboard 200 will be Lil Durk's 'The Voice,' dedicated to his late friend and mentee King Von. The 16-track album is expected to push 55,000 copies this week.
