This marks the second collaboration for the trio following the August 2018 track "YOSEMITE," which appeared on Travis' ASTROWORLD. Separately, NAV has numerous songs with Gunna, including the outstanding "Car Sick" produced by Metro Boomin, and Travis acted as one of his first major co-signs back in 2016, putting him on "beibs in the trap."
"Turks" is also NAV's first release as a lead artist in nearly a year, last popping up with the deluxe version of Bad Habits in March 2018.
Per Genius, the song's tropical title was inspired by a trip that NAV, Gunna, Travis and Wheezy reportedly took to Turks and Caicos. NAV shared an old picture of him and Gunna sitting outside of an oceanside mansion in the Turks earlier this week.
For the song itself, NAV gets to flexin' in his usual fashion right off the bat over a punchy, dramatic beat from Wheezy. "I'm a late bloomer, third year on the scene / Twenty racks don't feel like nothin' to me / Came from the streets, it turned me to a beast Invisible set, diamonds huggin' my piece," he raps.
NAV gives us an inside look at the crew's lavish vacation on the hook – "Took twenty bitches on my first vacay" – in between verses from Yung Gunna and La Flame. While both artists piggyback off Nav's initial rhyme pattern, Gunna speeds things up a little and has fun with his feature. "Poppin' on the block, I'd never serve a cop / I always kept a Glock, I ain't 'bout to see the grave," he hums.
Even though we can't spend much time outside due to the spread of coronavirus, "Turks" will be perfect for any warm weather coming our way. Stream that below! 🏝️
