JID – "Surround Sound" feat. 21 Savage & Baby Tate
JID is back and making a splash with what seems to be the first single for his next album, 'The Forever Story.' On "Surround Sound," he borrows a note from his Dreamville mentor J. Cole by tapping 21 Savage for a trap beat built around a soulful vocal sample, i.e., "a lot."
JID's subdued flow is slipperier than ever with lines like, "I'm a, I'm a, I'm an – I'm an anomaly, I turned into a rapper ironically."
Joey Bada$$ – "The Rev3nge"
Joey Bada$$ is looking for "Rev3nge" with his first official solo single since July 2020. (The "3" refers to his untitled third studio album.) Driven by triumphant horns like the ones heard on J. Cole's "Middle Child," Joey attempts to remind listeners of his status as one of the most capable rappers around.
While he's undoubtedly focused, the message comes across a bit bland with generic bars like, "Back with a classic, I know it's been long."
Earl Sweatshirt – "Titanic"
Like JID and Joey, Earl Sweatshirt also took an extended hiatus, though he just dropped his new album 'SICK!' and is soaking up widespread acclaim.
The muted visuals for "Titanic" find Earl riding around with his good friend, fellow rapper and actor Na-Kel Smith. He also commands the camera with rare bravado, dropping witty raps like, "Home town hold me down like a rock / So you know how I gotta skip it!"
Denzel Curry – "Walkin"
Word on the street is Denzel Curry's upcoming album 'Melt My Eyez See Your Future' will feature the 26-year-old at his best form yet. He's setting an otherworldly and wavy tone via the Tarantino-style Western video for his new single "Walkin" where he traverses a desert to confront his cowboy enemy.
Denzel also announced a world tour kicking off in April.
Babyface Ray – "Sincerely Face"
Babyface Ray is ready to prove why he's the 'Face' of the new wave of rap music exploding out of Detroit. He just dropped "Sincerely Face," the grimy and hypnotizing lead single from his new album, 'Face,' featuring Pusha T, Wiz Khalifa, G Herbo and more.
"Lil' n***a at the grown court still yellin', 'Next!' / I know heaven real, man, I done been through hell and back," he says with a cool whisper.
NoCap – "Fortune Teller"
It feels like NoCap can't miss these days.
He once again hit the trending section on YouTube thanks to his latest loosie called "Fortune Teller" where Cap unleashes angelic vocals and his signature reflections on the contrast between street life and his high-profile status. "On the internet, they keep throwing shots, but they can't take nun!"
