As further evidence that Lil Uzi may be trying to disrupt the rollout of Playboi Carti's upcoming album Whole Lotta Red, the Philadelphia rapper recently changed his Instagram profile picture to what looks like an album cover.
Inspired by a mock cover for WLR from designer Dan Levi, Uzi is shown sitting in a body of water and surrounded by deep red clouds.
This latest hint comes after Uzi previewed a new song early Monday morning alongside a single laughing emoji. Produced by frequent collaborator Oogie Mane and Clibbo, some fans believe the song may be titled "Just Meh," referencing Uzi's previous claim that he would drop new music on Monday.
"My n****s they made it from the struggle, yes / My n****s was in the jails and now they layin' on a jet," Uzi raps over hard-hitting drums.
Speculation around a Monday drop for both Uzi and Carti began late last week.
Hours after Carti released the song and visual for his single "@ MEH," he tweeted, “. MoNDaY,” leading many fans to believe that their agonizing wait for WLR would end just in time for 4/20.
Yet, all we received from Carti on Monday were a few tweets, including one stating that WLR is his favorite album.
"Red is MY fav album . ❤️ of mine .," he wrote.
Minutes after Carti's “. MoNDaY” tweet, though, Uzi seemingly expressed his intention to put out new music at the same time in a pointed message. “@playboicarti so u dropping Monday Bet it,” Uzi wrote in a since-deleted tweet.
He then followed up with another tweet imitating Carti’s original faux announcement.
Furthermore, Uzi posted cover art that resembled the artwork for “@ MEH,” along with the caption “Just Meh .”
Though it's still up for debate whether Uzi and Carti are seriously beefing, many listeners were disappointed by the absence of new music from both of these artists as Monday slowly came to a close.
