Playboi Carti made his long-awaited return to music on Thursday, offering the new baby-voiced banger "@ MEH." Delivered with a set of visuals, it's the first single in the lead-up to his upcoming album Whole Lotta Red.
Neeko Baby, Deskhop and jetsonmade (the South Carolina producer behind DaBaby's breakout hit "Suge") are responsible for the production on Carti's first solo release since his 2018 debut album Die Lit.
Trending at #1 on YouTube shortly after being uploaded, the lo-fi video directed by Nick Walker and Carti can be viewed below.
In the video, Carti's energy is subdued as he casually stumbles around a photo set while surrounded by teal-tinted shadows. There's also a few minimally-clothed women who pop in and out of the frame.
This low-key aesthetic is a far cry from the uncaged mosh pit present in his second-most recent video for "R.I.P.," which appeared on Die Lit.
As for the song itself, Carti employs his signature baby voice to deliver repeated mutters that question the integrity of his haters. "Them pussy niggas ain't 'bout that shit / Them pussy niggas ain't 'bout that shit," he spits. 😂
Just a few days ago, Carti teased the artwork for "@ MEH" on his Instagram, leading many hungry fans to suspect that WLR was coming soon. It's sill unclear, though, whether this same cover will be used for the album when it likely arrives on Monday, April 20.
An extended period of time between releases combined with several viral leaks has created sky-high expectations for Carti's upcoming music.
With this excitement in mind, some fans appeared to be a little disappointed after hearing "@ MEH." Most, however, remained steadfast in their love for Carti.
