Breezy and Thugger originally teased the mixtape in early April with a series of Instagram Stories. Previously, Brown has pump-faked on several other collaborative records with Jacquees, Rich The Kid, and Joyner Lucas, so some fans were skeptical about this latest tape coming to life.
After several weeks, Brown made good on the announcement, sharing that Slime & B would drop on the "5th DAY OF THE 5th MONTH." The 10-song collection comes with features from Future, Gunna, Lil Duke, E-40, Too $hort, as well as a couple of others.
May 5th isn't only Cinco de Mayo, it's also Brown's 31st birthday, which is likely one of the main reasons they decided to publish on Tuesday. Hours before the tape was released, Brown also previewed the tracklist on IG.
While CB and Thug have worked with many of the same artists, including Drake, Gunna, Trippie Redd, and Justin Bieber, the two have previously connected on only one song as collaborators, “High End.”
Now, they seem to have developed unique chemistry. An anime-inspired theme reflecting that chemistry can be seen across the cover art for Slime & B as well as the promotional content. Below, Brown and Thug look like ninjas ready to take any duo that dares to challenge their slime capabilities.
Though there weren't many hints about how smoothly these two artists would mesh, the early response online has been mostly positive.
On Tuesday morning, the tape was only available on SoundCloud, but other platforms eventually caught up. Standout tracks include: "SAY YOU LOVE ME," "GO CRAZY" and "SHE BUMPED HER HEAD feat. Gunna."
