Drizzy has set numerous records recently with his dance-inspired song "Toosie Slide," like becoming the fastest hashtag (#ToosieSlide) to ever hit a billion views on TikTok, reaching the mark in only two days.
However, hip-hop personality Charlamagne Tha God doesn't like seeing Drizzy play into trends – even if he raises the bar in the process.
On a recent episode of his The Brilliant Idiots podcast, co-hosted by Andrew Schulz, Charlamagne discussed the track after likening his lack of interest in the subject to how he feels about news surrounding 6ix9ine.
"I think it's wack and I think it's beneath Drake," Charlamagne said. "I think that when you're the biggest artist in the world, when you're the biggest rapper in the world, I don't like to see you chasing trends. It's like, why be a surfer when you're a fucking wave? I just didn't respect it."
He went on the claim that Drake's foray into the TikTok world feels "too industry" and just unnecessary.
"The shit might still work, but it just don't seem organic," he added. "A lot of times with those TikTok dances, it's just organic. It's a song people like and then somebody does something to it and it goes. It was like it felt too forced. It felt too corporate. Too industry. I just feel like Drake has built himself up into such a way that he don't have to do that shit, man."
Schulz agreed, saying that it was the first time he witnessed Drake "look thirsty." You can watch the entire back and forth starting near the 1:43:30 mark.
Charlamagne's opinionated comments sparked some discussion among fans about whether he was speaking facts. A handful of the most pointed thoughts lie below. 🤔
