Bhad Bhabie is facing backlash after comparing "the hood" to Tarzan's jungle. 🤦♂️
Earlier this week, Bhad Bhabie, who came to fame in 2017 as the "Cash Me Outside" girl from Dr. Phil, was accused of cultural appropriation and blackfishing after she shared a video of herself with a darker skin tone than usual.
Many suspected she was using makeup to alter her look and appear more Black.
Bhabie, real name Danielle Bregoli, recently turned to Instagram Live to try and dismiss the accusations and rationalize her behavior, claiming she's only a result of the environment in which she grew up.
All she did, though, was attract even more negative attention by likening her experience "in the hood" to the fictional scenario of Tarzan in the jungle.
"Y'all say that I try to be black," the 17-year-old said around the 3:30 minute mark. "Maybe the reason for me trying to be black is 'cause I grew up in the hood. Tarzan, right? The story of Tarzan. He grew up around the bears in the jungle. He didn't know no better! ... Tarzan was with the monkeys. He grew up with that. That's all he knows! When someone grows up in a certain area or a certain place, they're a part of their environment."
She added, “I can’t help it if I act a little hood or act [like] what y’all would say is more Black. I’m sorry. That’s the type of people I grew up around."
Elsewhere in the live stream, Bhabie brought Lil Kim's name up, claiming she "got a nose job to have a smaller nose like White people."
Lil Kim then addressed the comments in a series of Instagram Stories. She acknowledged the world is dealing with bigger issues right now, but she's keeping tabs for future reference.
"You better believe when this is all over ima put a date and address on it and seal it with a kiss. 💋," she wrote.
Needless to say, Bhabie's mindless comments upset many viewers. You can view some of their reactions below.
