Originally included as part of her visual album Black Is King exclusively on Disney+, Beyoncé has released the video for "Brown Skin Girl" featuring WizKid and SAINt JHN for free.
Alongside the video, which involves cameos from Blue Ivy, Lupita Nyong'o, Kelly Rowland, Naomi Campbell and others, Bey shared a special message on Good Morning America on Monday about the shooting style.
"It was so important to me in 'Brown Skin Girl' that we represented all different shades of brown," Beyoncé explained. "We wanted every character to be shot in a regal light. ... It was important that we're all in this together and we all are celebrating each other."
In a separate interview with Essence, director Jenn Nkiru also discussed capturing the humanity of each person. "My focus is always, how do we get to represent people in a human way, in a full way?" she said. "These are women, irrespective of even complexion for a moment, these are women."
Just last Friday, JAY-Z made waves via YouTube as well, connecting with Pharrell to document the stories of various Black self-starters, like Tyler, The Creator, for their latest single "Entrepreneur."
