Beyoncé, Bad Bunny, Kendrick: The 2023 Grammy Nominees Are In
| LAST UPDATE 11/16/2022
The nominations for the 2023 Grammy Awards are officially in. The Recording Academy announced the nominees on Tuesday, November 15. And people have already got lots to say. Here is what you need to know about the upcoming ceremony.
Queen Bey has come to slay once again. The Houston native is the most nominated artist at this year’s ceremony with 9 nominations, including Album Of The Year for Renaissance and Record Of The Year for Break My Soul. Beyoncé has the opportunity to become the most-awarded artist in Grammy history. If she wins 4 of her 9 nominations, she will surpass the record currently held by Sir Georg Solti, an orchestra conductor who holds the record with 31 wins. Now, she is tied with her husband, Hova, for being the most nominated artist in Grammy history. They each have 88 nominations. Now that’s the definition of a power couple. Puerto Rican singer and rapper Bad Bunny already made history with his nomination. His album, Un Verano Sin Ti, is the first all-Spanish album to be recognized in the Album Of the Year. That’s what we’re talking about!
Coming up right behind Queen Bey is Compton rapper Kendrick Lamar. LA is in the house! Lamar has 8 total nominations, including Best Rap Performance and Best Rap Album. He will be competing against rap superstars Future, Jack Harlow, DJ Khaled, and Pusha T for the title of Best Rap Album. Mary J. Blige also has something to sing about. The Queen of Hip-Hop Soul has picked up 6 nominations at this year’s Grammys, in addition to her Emmy win for the Superbowl LVI Halftime Show. Additionally, 5 new categories will be introduced at this year’s ceremony, including Songwriter Of the Year (Non-Classical), Best Alternative Music Performance, Best Americana Music Performance, Best Score Soundtrack for Video Games and Other Interactive Media, and Best Spoken Word Poetry Album. There will also be a Special Merit Award for the Best Song For Social Change. Other nominees include Viola Davis, Jamie Foxx, Lizzo, Diana Ross, Dave Chappelle, Doja Cat, and more.
