Activision unveiled the teaser trailer for Call of Duty Black Ops: Cold War on Thursday, just a few weeks after a leak regarding the game's title and logo was discovered via Doritos' promotional material.
The 2-minute clip called "Know Your History" hints at a storyline inspired by true events and centered around a Soviet spy codenamed "Perseus," who is believed to have "infiltrated Western intelligence" in an attempt to sabotage the United States' military.
No gameplay footage is included, only vintage interviews and recordings of Cold War-era political demonstrations, war scenes and protests.
The Cold War was a period of over 40 years of geopolitical tension between the U.S. and the Soviet Union (Russia), as well as their respective allies, following World War II. One of the most memorable, non-violent and "cold" elements of the war was the Space Race or proving superiority in spaceflight adventures.
In the lead-up to this big announcement, a handful of media and streamers were invited to participate in an alternate reality game (ARG) involving old-school projectors and coded clues about the franchise's then-unknown upcoming game.
Treyarch, the developer of this latest edition of Black Ops, which hasn't seen an update in a decade, also surprised everyone with a release date: next Wednesday, August 26. Let's go!
