The Great Conjunction on Monday marked the closest visible alignment of Saturn and Jupiter since 1226. If you opened Twitter or Instagram, chances are you probably came across a post or 10 envisioning life with a newfound superpower, from time travel to invisibility.

The only thing greater than the powers being joked about were the memes.

How'd the trend start? First, the highly-anticipated phenomenon of Saturn and Jupiter appearing just a dime’s width apart in the night sky for the first time in almost 800 years got peoples' minds going.

Various astrologers like Chani Nicholas also suggested that this conjunction, happening for the first time in 200 years in the air sign of Aquarius, along with the Winter Solstice, a day to restart and set intentions, would usher in a "new 200-year era" for humanity.

This theory seemed especially relevant given the intense and unforgettable events of 2020, most notably the COVID-19 pandemic and protests against racism and police brutality.

But a viral tweet proposing that Dec. 21 would somehow "unlock" the "real DNA" of Black people, allowing them "to do things that we thought were fiction" is what really sparked the conversation and joke. "Learn who u are as a people they wanna make us average," the author wrote.

Unfortunately, there weren't any reports of folks soaring through the sky or lifting vehicles with a finger. Lil Duval wondered why his otherworldly abilities hadn't kicked in yet while NLE Choppa claimed he had already realized his powers by manifesting a better reality for himself.

Hope is still alive: The part about a refreshed society could have some legs, though. Virginia's statue of Confederate general Robert E. Lee was removed from the U.S. Capitol on Monday morning.
