Former 106 & Park host Terrence J went after actor Marlon Wayans about how important his family was to his success. 😅
Terrence J was the subject of internet backlash on Thursday after targeting Wayans on Instagram Live about the crucial role his family played in his rise to fame.
Before launching into a rant, the two were reportedly talking about nepotism – the way those with power or influence favor relatives or friends in professional fields – and Hollywood.
“Listen, let me just school you on something, young man," Terrence told Wayans, as the latter asked him to show some respect. "This ain’t all about your family, okay? Your family can’t bail you out of this one, alright? There’s other people in the world that are not Wayans people."
Marlon is a member of the famous Wayans family, and oldest brother Keenen Ivory opened the door to show business for him and his siblings, Damon, Kim and Shawn.
“Let me tell you something about family, I don’t ever need them to bail me out of nothing,” Wayans said. “They raised me. If you ever think I’m great because of me, I'm not. I’m great because of the tribe – you’re gonna respect the tribe."
In response to Terrence J's plea for "two seconds" to talk, Wayans let him know that he was "disrespecting the culture" by trying to call him out for making the most of his family's status in Hollywood.
Terrence shot back. "Get off of Keenan Ivory Wayans’ lap for just two seconds,” he said. "Bro, some of us have to make it on our own, that’s all I’m saying. We can’t have our family to f*cking lifting us up all the time."
With Marlon responsible for classic flicks like the first two installments of the Scary Movie series, White Chicks, Little Man and, of course, The Wayans Bros. TV show, many fans were quick to drag Terrence J.
