Nicki Minaj's husband is in hot water with the Feds after failing to register as a sex offender.
Per TMZ, the 41-year-old Kenneth Petty turned himself over to U.S. Marshals on Wednesday, March 5. His legal issues stem from a prior arrest in Nov. 2019 when he was pulled over in Beverly Hills.
For background, Nicki and Petty moved to Southern California in July 2019, around the same time they got married. But Petty, a registered sex offender in New York, never re-registered in California, which is against the law. The cop who pulled him over discovered this hiccup and placed him in custody. He was charged with this crime and released on $20,000 bond.
But he didn't do anything to right his wrongs because a federal court has just indicted on the same charge. C'mon man!
He appeared in court Wednesday afternoon and pled not guilty. He will now have to wear an ankle monitor and adhere to a curfew. His lawyer said he was planning to post Petty's bond shortly after the hearing, which sits at $100,000. Petty is scheduled to face a judge again on March 23.
As TMZ reported in 2018, Petty was convicted of first-degree attempted rape in April 1995. At only 16 years old, he was accused of forcing the victim, a 16-year-old girl, to have sex with him. He ended up serving nearly four years in New York state prison.
But his criminal past doesn't stop there. Several years later he was also convicted of first-degree manslaughter after shooting someone, resulting in a seven-year sentence. Petty was released in 2013.
At the end of the day, we can't judge Nicki for who she chooses as a partner. But you can't deny dude has a questionable past.
