Get your burgers and fries ready, because Good Burger 2 is coming to Paramount+! After over 25 years since the hit Nickelodeon comedy, it was announced on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon that a sequel is officially in the works. The original stars Kenan Thompson and Kel Mitchell will return to their iconic roles as Dexter and Ed, respectively. The film is set to begin production in May with plans to debut it on Paramount+ later in 2023.
“Being a part of something so many generations of people have come to love has made me so proud,” shared Thompson. “And now to be back where it all began working on the sequel is surreal!” The original Good Burger movie came to life from a sketch on the Nickelodeon series All That in which Mitchell starred as Ed. It was then spun off into the movie, which became a box office success, grossing just under $24 million with a reported budget of $8 million. Per the official logline of the upcoming film, Dexter is back at Good Burger after struggling to make it with his inventions. Once again, he puts the future of the beloved restaurant in jeopardy. But with the help of Ed and a new crew, fans can expect lots of shenanigans, laughs, and nostalgia.
Mitchell added, “Ed is one of those timeless characters that has brought so much joy and laughter to fans… It’s super awesome to come back and continue the stories of Dex, Ed, and Good Burger for both the people who grew up watching and their kids.” The original writers Kevin Kopelow and Heath Seifert, who also worked on All That, will serve as writers and executive producers on the sequel. James III is also a writer, and Phil Traill will direct. Nickelodeon Studios will be producing.
