Among the slew of first impressions following the release of the first teaser trailer for Matt Reeves' The Batman over the weekend was fans' shock at how unrecognizable Colin Farrell looks in the role of the Penguin.

Some even thought the reboot of Batman's fancy foe, a mobster who often calls himself the "Gentleman of Crime," was being played by a totally different actor, Richard Kind.

"I can’t believe this is Colin Farrell as Penguin. He’s unrecognizable lol," commented one Twitter user. "No lie. I thought Colin Farrell was Richard Kind," wrote another. You can't blame him!

As you're probably aware if you've ever scrolled through Instagram, prosthetics and post-production can drastically change how a person looks. Even someone with as familiar of an appearance as Farrell.

Reeves revealed the trailer during DC's FanDome virtual event, telling attendees that his darker take will explore Batman's "early days" when he was "very far from being perfect." Robert Pattinson plays him.

Reeves explained, "What was exciting for me was not doing the origin [story] but to meet him in the middle and to see him make mistakes and grow and fail and be heroic in a way that felt very human and very flawed."

Villains like the Penguin, real name Oswald Cobblepot, and Catwoman (Zoe Kravitz) will be seen in their early years, too. The flick, which is reportedly 25% finished, is currently set to hit theaters in October 2021.
