From John Lennon to John Legend: These Couples Are The Epitome of 'Love is Love'
| LAST UPDATE 01/03/2022
As the Beatles once said, all you need is love and these couples are arguably some of Cupid's best work yet. From John Lennon to J.Lo, here are some of the most famous interracial couples over the years.
Yoko Ono & John Lennon
For most of us, finding 'the one' might call for ditching poker night with the boys or late nights at the bar. As for this Beatle? It, too, led him to say bye to his boys - they just happened to be global icons with an army of fans to answer to.
"When I met Yoko... That was the end of the boys... I knew, 'My God, this is different from anything I've ever known,'" Lennon revealed of his decision to say bye to the Beatles and hello to married life, up until his tragic death in 1980.
Bruce Sudano & Donna Summer
There's no doubt about it: The story of how these soulful legends first came to be is one for the books. After crossing paths at Casablanca Records back in 1977, up-and-coming singer, Donna and her new songwriter, Bruce would go on to bless more than just our ears, as the iconic lovebirds took to our radios with hit after hit.
Unfortunately, 35 successful years, 1 happy marriage, and 2 daughters later, the dynamic duo's story came to a sudden end in 2012, after Summer succumbed to lung cancer. But while the superstar's passing might have been far too soon, their legacy is bound to live on forever.
Diana Ross & Gene Simmons
Do you believe in life after love? We're not so sure Cher does, after the story of how this KISS rocker and his former flame, Diana Ross, first came to be. It may have started with Diana, helping Cher's beau pick out the perfect present for his lucky lady, but the events that followed were, well, messy.
"'Call my friend Diana Ross, she will tell you exactly what I like,'" Simmons recalled of the words he was met with by his former girlfriend, Cher, back in '79. Safe to say, Cher wasn't the only one blindsided, after the seemingly innocent call morphed into a fiery romance between Cher's former pal and the rocking legend. Yikes.
Brad Pitt & Robin Givens
Of course, we'll never forget the time Hollywood's golden boy called it quits with Hollywood's golden girl (sorry, Jen). Or the time Pitt went on to become half of #Brangelina, before, too, calling it quits. But what about the time the famous charmer was busy cozying up with Mike Tyson's ex?
That's right, back in 1989, shortly after the boxer called it quits with his ex-wife, Givens struck up an unlikely relationship with the blonde star. How'd they meet? Acting class, of course. "I was doing Head of the Class... He couldn't get a job," she told Hollywood Life. Funny how things have changed, huh?
Tina Turner & Erwin Bach
Our next love story may have started at Heathrow airport, but it sure doesn't end there. In fact, fast forward to today, and 34 years after this music legend first met Erwin, the charming man her record label sent to meet her that fateful day in London, they've been by each other's side ever since.
"I got into the car with him. My hands were wet, and I thought, 'My God, it's love at first sight,'" Turner recalled to Oprah of the moment she and her husband first crossed paths. Sure enough, decades later, and the two would finally go on to tie the knot in 2013, proving love has no expiration date.
Robert De Niro & Grace Hightower
If you ask Grace Hightower how she came to be Mrs. De Niro, make no mistake about it - it was no whirlwind. In fact, "It was an ease-in," as she revealed to The NY Times. Sure enough, after the then-hostess first crossed paths with the smitten actor at Mr. Chow, back in 1987, it took a full decade before the two made their love official.
Unfortunately, though, after over 20 years of marriage, the famous couple eventually went on to call it quits, with their 2018 split hijacking tabloids, as rumors swirled about their bitter breakup. Nonetheless, we'd certainly call this one whirlwind of a ride, even if, well, they don't see it that way.
Arsenio Hall & Paula Abdul
Unlike De Niro and his famous ex, Paula Abdul and Arsenio Hall's breakup ended so well, that it actually led to rumors of a potential reconciliation. But while it appears all of that romance gossip was indeed just that, gossip, why don't we break down what we do know for sure?
It all started back in '88, the moment the funny guy first crossed paths with the former Lakers girl, as Paula made her way onto the set of Coming to America. Sure, she might have only been 18, and their little fling might have only lasted about a year, but if you ask Hall? It was "the most fun I've ever had in any phase of my life."
Kim Basinger & Prince
Kim Basinger was yet another aspiring star with a dream of making it big when she first crossed paths with this singing legend back in 1989, on set of Batman. But it was only a matter of time before all of that changed, as the smitten beauty ditched Hollywood for Minneapolis to shack up with her Fuschia-loving Prince.
In fact, the two were so loved up that Kim even went on to record an entire album Prince had written for her: Hollywood Affair, which sadly never made it to our radios. What we do know? "It was a really special moment in time, and I have great memories," as the actress eventually revealed.
David Bowie & Iman
If you asked this rocking legend, he and Iman were practically destined to live a life by each other's side. As a matter of fact, from the moment he first laid eyes on the show-stopping beauty, Bowie already knew "that she would be my wife," as he told Hello!. "In my head, was a done deal."
Sure enough, he was right on the money, with the smitten lovers going on to tie the knot, after first crossing paths at that fateful dinner party back in 1990. Sadly, this story ends in 2016, with the British singer succumbing to liver cancer after a grueling 18-month battle.
Kelly Ripa & Mark Consuelos
If you spend any time on the 'gram, there's a good chance you're already all too familiar with these wonderful lovebirds. After first meeting on the set of All My Children, back in 1995, the two have gone on to bless us with both good looks and a good laugh, as the power couple continues to grow stronger by the day.
And, well, as fate would have it, after getting hitched at a little chapel in Vegas back in 1996, the two have certainly lucked out, blessing our feeds with their beautiful family and unwavering love for one another - one hilarious trolling at a time.
Georges LeBar & RuPaul
The story of how our next famous faces came to be can be traced back to the buzzing dance floor at a nightclub, back in 1994. But just because RuPaul might know a thing or two about showbiz doesn't mean his other half does. In fact, on paper? They couldn't be more opposite.
"He doesn't care about show business at all," RuPaul revealed of his longtime partner, Georges LeBar. Instead? You can typically find the rancher on the 60,000-acres he tends to out in Wyoming. "When I go there, I dress up in Western wear, and nobody cares." We've never been more intrigued...
J.Lo & P.Diddy
She might have promised us love don't cost a thing, but back in 2001, J.Lo had to pay the hefty price of endless tabloids, after her and Diddy's sudden breakup left folks everywhere scrambling for answers. "We had this kind of crazy, tumultuous relationship that ended in a bang," as she herself explained to The Breakfast Club.
From swanky after-parties to matching red-carpet looks (you know exactly what we're talking about, don't you?), these two may have first met backstage of Jenny's music video in 1999, but their public ride was certainly one for the books. "He was meant to be in my life… to teach me," J.Lo reflected on her "Puffy era."
Mariah Carey & Eminem
Just like Jenny and Puff Daddy, our next famous faces might had first linked up for the sake of music back in '01, but their rocky romance was far from melodious. Then again, if you ask Mariah, it never even happened, so, well, we'll let you be the judge of this one. What we do know?
Whatever went down behind closed doors eventually made its way to our radios. From Mariah's shady track, Obsessed, to Slim's multiple diss tracks, claiming the two did, indeed, have a brief fling, we might never know the truth - but at least we've managed to squeeze a few iconic songs out in the process, so that's something?
Maya Rudolph & Paul Thomas Anderson
Granted, their marriage license - or lack thereof - might suggest otherwise, but this funny lady and her beau of almost 20 years "are [just like] a [married] couple, and we are not going anywhere," as Rudolph, herself, told The New York Times. So, how did these two first cross paths?
For starters, she's a comedic genius, he's an 8-time Oscar-nominated director. And, well, back in the 00s, their little talents would bring them together, as Anderson found himself on set of Saturday Night Live, the future birthplace of Rudolph's famous one-liners, as Grantland reported.
Enrique Iglesias & Anna Kournikova
How exactly does a superstar and a tennis player even come to cross paths? On the set of a music video, of course, because, well, why not? Back in 2001, that's exactly what happened, as the blonde bombshell found herself playing Enrique's on and off-screen love interest, and well, the rest is history.
Fast forward to today? And the power couple has somehow managed to keep majority of their relationship - and the three children it eventually called for - under wraps. Not too difficult when you're a global pop star and a professional athlete, huh? Nope, consider us very impressed - and intrigued.
Luciana Barroso & Matt Damon
Imagine working as a bartender at one of Miami's busiest bars, when all of a sudden, you're serving your future soulmate: An award-winning Hollywood actor, with eyes for you and only you. No, we're not talking about your dreams. We're talking about the all-too-real story of how Luciana Barroso came to meet her slightly famous beau.
"Matt's story is that he saw me across the room, and there was a light on me," Barroso revealed to Vogue of the moment the two crossed paths back in 2003. How did she put it? "I'm like, 'Yeah, it was a nightclub – there were lights everywhere!'" How romantic.
Tiger Woods & Elin Nordegren
He might know a thing or two about getting a hole in one, but off of the putting greens? Pro golfer Tiger Woods' journey with ex-wife, Elin is actually far from smooth. Yep, there's a good chance you already heard all about this one, but if by some chance you didn't? We should warn ya, it's a little messy.
Sure, it may have started with a pro athlete falling for the beautiful blonde working as a nanny for a family friend, but Woods and Elin's little fairytale didn't last long. After marrying in '04, the nightmare began in '09, as Woods' infidelity began to emerge, resulting in a $100 million divorce payout and a whole lot of questions.
Cash Warren & Jessica Alba
"I called my best friend and was like, 'I met this guy, and I feel like I've known him forever and I'm going to know him for the rest of my life,'" Jessica Alba revealed to Cosmopolitan of the moment she and Warren first crossed paths. How'd the two first meet?
It was 2004, Alba had found herself on the set of Fantastic Four, a starring role, while Warren was busy working as a production assistant. Safe to say, the rest is history, and the unlikely couple went on on to tick off 10+ years, 3 kids, and 1 happy marriage together.
Kim Kardashian & Kanye West
Remember when Kanye fell in love with Kim, around the same time she had fell in love with him? Yep, long before the Sunday Service, before the four children, and Ye's swanky transformation into 'Christian Genius Billionaire,' Mr. West was actually busy crushing hard like a little schoolboy - and you can bet we're here for it.
You see, back in the 2010s, we watched Kim Kardashian go from married to divorced in the blink of an eye (well, 72 days if we're counting). But while her marriage to Kris Humphries might have gone south, her future would soon prop her north, as she found her way to a smitten Kanye West, and well, the rest is now history.
Jason Momoa & Lisa Bonet
Long before Jason Momoa was towering over our screens as Khal Drogo, long before he even made his way to Hollywood, the Game of Thrones legend actually had his sights set elsewhere: Lisa Bonet. "Mommy, I want that one," Momoa recalled of the words he muttered after first stumbling across Denise Huxtable on his screen, back in the 80s.
Sure enough, fast forward to today, and the actor has officially cemented his name as a living legend - but don't take our word for it: "Listen here, I married Lisa Bonet. Anything is f****** possible,'" he joked to Esquire, after finally meeting his childhood crush at a jazz club back in '05, and, well, the rest is history.
Paige Butcher & Eddie Murphy
You might recognize him as The Nutty Professor or Shrek's wisecracking partner in crime, but to actress Paige Butcher? Eddie Murphy was simply a visiting guest that fateful day, when the actor came to visit his famous friend, Martin Lawrence, on set of Big Momma's House 2. Little did she know he wasn't going anywhere.
You see, after first crossing paths backstage back in 2006, the actress and the famous funny guy have been attached at the hip ever since - even if it took them 6 years to finally make it official. Fast forward to today, and after popping the question back in 2018, Eddie and his fiancé don't seem to be going anywhere anytime soon.
Francois Henri Pinault & Salma Hayek Pinault
If you ask Salma Hayek how she and her French billionaire husband first came to be, make no mistake about it, "it's such a romantic, amazing story," as she proudly revealed. Unfortunately, though, we can't tell you much about it, you know, considering, "I'm not going to tell you," she teased to Town & Country.
What we can tell you, though, is that the famous couple first crossed paths back in 2006, at a swanky gala held at the Palazzo Grassi in Venice. And by 2009, they'd go on to make their love official in the form of a fairytale wedding held at the same place they first met: Venice, Italy, at the Opera House.
Chrissy Teigen & John Legend
Long before Chrissy was busy trolling her husband on the 'gram, or blessing us with drool-worthy recipes when those cravings hit, the wisecracking model was actually busy cooking up something entirely different: A budding romance with up-and-coming singer, John Legend. How'd they meet?
It was '06, and the bombshell had landed a gig in the singer's music video for Stereo. "We spent the entire day together, me in my underwear and him in a full suit, and I went to go say goodbye to him, to his hotel, and we didn't ever say goodbye that night," Teigen spilled. We'll let your imagination do the rest of the talking here.
Yvette Prieto & Michael Jordan
There's no doubt about it, Michael Jordan is a legend - but not only on the courts. Back in 2013, the NBA All-Star graced our headlines yet again, as he balled out on perhaps the most swanky wedding of the decade... costing him about $10 million, as Cheatsheet reported. Yep, are you also feeling really broke right about now?
After first crossing paths with model Yvette Prieto at a Miami nightclub, back in 2007, it was only uphill for the smitten athlete, who went on to pop the big question come 2011. Fast forward to today, and the happy couple appears to be better than ever, welcoming twin daughters, Ysabel and Victoria in 2014.
Eva Mendes & Ryan Gosling
Sure, our next famous couple might be a walking cliché, but that doesn't mean they don't love every minute of it. In fact, if you ask Gosling? "It sounds so cliché, but I never knew that life could be this fun," the smitten actor revealed to People of married life. "It's heaven... like walking through a field of flowers every day."
But what about before all of the flowers? How'd these guys come to cross paths in the first place? It all started back in 2011, as the actors took to our screens to play former lovers in The Place Beyond the Pines. Safe to say, their off-screen reality was, well, much less grim, with the happy couple by each other's side ever since.
Amal & George Clooney
In seemingly the blink of an eye, we watched Mr. Clooney go from one of Hollywood's most beloved heartbreakers to a one-woman man, after falling in love with the beautiful human rights lawyer who stumbled into Lake Cuomo villa, one fateful day back in 2013.
But you didn't hear it from us: "We met in Lake Como. She was a friend of a friend who came to visit," the actor explained. But don't think it was smooth sailing from there. "I chased her for many months, calling and writing, those kinds of things," he admitted, before finally getting down on one knee in 2014.
Tristan Thompson & Khloe Kardashian
We know, it's been one whirlwind of a ride for these two. But if, by some chance, you're struggling to keep up with the reality star's ride with her on-and-off-again beau - the father of her baby girl, True? Don't worry, we've got you covered. Hang on while we break it down, the good, the bad, and the vicious cheating scandals.
It all started in '16, as Khloe and the NBA star linked up on a blind date. But while things may have gone well, everything would soon change as news leaked that KoKo's beau had cheated on her... with her baby sister, Kylie's BFF (remember that?). As for today? The two seem to be giving things another go. We'd stay tuned if we were you.
Big Sean & Ariana Grande
Remember when Ari thought she'd end up with Sean (who wasn't her match)? Sure, there's a good chance you're already all too familiar with the queen of pop's rosters of exes (not that we're judging, of course), but did you ever wonder how they first came to be? You know, before the failed relationships made their way onto our radios?
It all started back in 2014, as these artists linked up in the studio for their latest collab. In only a matter of time, though, the pop star went from the rapper's friend to the "new chick that [he's] gotta thank god for," even if their story doesn't have a happy ending. But damn they made a cute couple.
Britney Spears & Sam Asghari
There's a pretty good chance you've already met the queen of pop's mysterious beau on the 'gram. But when they're not busy breaking a sweat in the gym together or jetting off to Hawaii, how exactly did these famous faces even meet? If you guessed on the set of a music video, congratulations - are you sensing a pattern here?
"She said, 'Hi, I'm Britney,' and I said, 'I'm sorry, what's your name again?'" the fitness model revealed to Men's Health. "I tried to be funny. I don't think anybody got it." Safe to say, his joke must've done the trick, considering Asghari managed to slip her his digits, and well, the rest is now history.
Serena Williams & Alexis Ohanian
Sure, on paper, a professional tennis player and a co-founder of Reddit might not exactly sound like, well, an expected match, but off-paper? Serena Williams and Alexis Ohanian have gone on to defy all odds, striking gold when it came to finding love... even if how they first came to be wasn't exactly all that graceful.
"This big guy comes, and he just plops down at the table next to us, and I'm like, 'Huh!' Williams revealed of the moment her Italian getaway was interrupted by a smitten vacationgoer at her hotel. Sure enough, despite Alexis' unwelcomed entrance, the athlete soon welcomed him with open arms, and the two have been together ever since.
Drake & Sophie Brussaux
He might have no problem baring all about his love life - or lack thereof - on our radios, but Drizzy's explosive fling with French artist Sophie Brussaux was never meant to make it to our feeds. Sure enough, we've got Pusha T, and one vengeful diss track to thank for that one.
"I wasn't hiding my kid from the world," Drake explained, "I was hiding the world from my kid," the rapper continued, after Pusha's The Story of Adidon track opened the lid on Drizzy's former French flame, and the not-so-secret love child it soon called for: A blonde-haired, blue-eyed, Adonis Graham.
Catherine Paiz & Austin McBroom
It feels like we've been keeping up with these two and their growing family for forever now, but what about before all of the YouTube blogs and viral prank wars? Believe it or not, long before the famous bloggers welcomed us into their Ace Family, Austin was busy trying to win his future Mrs. over.
You see, if you ask him, "I knew as soon as I met her," back in 2016, that Catherine would be his end game. But if you ask her? "I wasn't used to things happening so quickly," the formerly-hesitant star told Power 106. Sure enough, though, whatever Austin did clearly worked, and the two have been blessing our screens ever since.
Priyanka Chopra & Nick Jonas
The story of how our next famous faces first came to be actually starts down in the DMs because, well, welcome to 2020, folks. But believe it or not, all it took was one Twitter message for the charming pop star to win over his future wife's heart - and we've suddenly never felt more inspired.
"I'm hearing from... mutual friends that we should meet," Nick recalled of the words he sent on over into Chopra's inbox. As for when they finally did? Their little date ended with a... pat on the back. Yep, "She's still upset about that," Nick joked. Nonetheless, the two went on to tie the knot in '18, so take what you want from that.
Cardi B & Offset
You already know she was once a "regular, shmegular girl from the Bronx;" You already know about her and Offset's almost-divorce back in September; But what about all of the drama that didn't make it to our feeds? You know, like how these two first even came to be?
For starters, it called for a whole lot of work on Offset's side. "He was very consistent," Cardi revealed of the moment her future beau first laid eyes on her at an industry event, back in 2016. Her response? "Yea, yea, yea, whatever," before eventually giving him a shot, with the rest now in Instagram history.
Travis Scott & Kylie Jenner
Sure, if you ask Kylie or Travis, they can't tell you where exactly they first crossed paths, but that doesn't mean they haven't had one whirlwind of a ride. From matching tattoos to their baby daughter, Stormi Webster, the rapper and reality star are officially slaying the world of Hollywood.
But that doesn't mean it's been easy. In fact, if you ask Kylie, it actually took her a while to win over her beau, back in 2017. "We never really had a conversation because I thought that he didn't like me," Jenner revealed to GQ. Safe to say, the beauty clearly had it all wrong, and the two have been on and off together ever since.
