It's been decided. 😂

When football fans learned that the NFL's Washington franchise would officially be changing its name from the Redskins to something not racist, a few promising ideas were tossed around the internet. There was the Redtails, the RedHawks.

If the 2020-21 season happens this fall, Washington revealed that "pending adoption of a new name," they'll be keeping things as generic as possible. Introducing The Washington Football Team, per Adam Schefter.

There won't be any updates in the team's burgundy and gold color scheme, but players' helmets will feature their number in gold instead of the Redskins logo. While the Football Team plays football, its players, alumni and fans will reportedly be able to offer "feedback" on the name switch.

How did we get here?

Though team owner Dan Snyder reaffirmed on numerous occasions his refusal to change the name of the team, nationwide protests against systemic racism prompted major partners like FedEx, Walmart and Amazon to put pressure on Snyder to reconsider. In a letter, FedEx even said it would remove its name from the stadium if Washington didn't come up with something else by the 2021 season.

With the start of a reduced 80-man training camp just days away, a total rebrand was apparently scrapped, leaving us here. Commenters from across the sports world, including LeBron James, shared their thoughts. Let's just say most people weren't all that impressed.

Merch for the Football Team will be available to purchase from NFL Shop and Fanatics in the next few days. With the preseason canceled, Washington will debut its new look against the Eagles in Week 1 this coming September.
