Watch: Lil Baby Goes Insane During Funk Flex Freestyle

music /

Fresh off the release of his new 20-song album, My Turn, Lil Baby checked in with Hot 97’s Funk Flex for an insane freestyle.

Dripping with thousands of dollars’ worth of jewelry and a BAPE x Coach leather jacket, the 25-year-old Atlanta rapper gets right into a pocket and starts firing off bars about the success he’s manifested in his young career.

“How you be humble with all of this money? / Can go back to nothin’, it’s different for me,” he spits. Meanwhile, Funk Flex looks over with a face reflecting the intensity and focus that Baby is bringing to the table.

This isn’t the first time Baby has lent himself to a session with Funk Flex. Back in Nov. 2018 when he was first starting to really pop off, Baby flowed over the Tay Keith beat for “Never Recover,” which was a standout track featuring Drake that first appeared on Baby and Gunna’s collaborative project, Drip Harder.

While rapping is clearly an effortless skill for Lil Baby, you can tell he was especially locked in during his most recent #Freestlye147.

That same day, March 6, Lil Baby sat down with Ebro in the Morning and reflected on his early experiences in music. For someone who’s so talented, it’s crazy to hear that Lil Baby started recording only two to three years ago.

“First day I tried [rapping seriously], I put a snippet on my Instagram. Then Gucci Mane come in like, ‘Imma sign you.’ Then [Young Thug] come in like, ‘You already signed to me,'” he recalled. 😂

While he’s previously credited Young Thug with motivating him to take music seriously – at one point, Thug paid him to leave the streets – Baby ended up signing with Quality Control Music, the Atlanta-based label that broke Migos and Lil Yachty.

Aside from music, Baby has also been making moves to empower the youth in his Atlanta community. He recently announced the “My Turn” Scholarship fund to help strong students at his former high school, Booker T. Washington High School, attend college.
