You likely know Toliver from his standout performance alongside Travis and Sheck Wes on the recent JACKBOYS mixtape. His ghostly yet sociable, high-pitched presence is most apparent on "HAD ENOUGH (feat. Quavo & Offset)," which doubled as a single for Heaven Or Hell. "You got two choices, either Heaven or Hell, huh / Meanwhile, put that dope on the scale," he sings.
Over production from the likes of Mike Dean, Sonny Digital, WondaGurl and others, Toliver takes listeners on a blurred bender into the after hours of Houston. Touching pregames, clubs, strip clubs and the "After Party," Toliver and the JACKBOYS know the energy should always peak near the end of the night. "Okay, I pull up, hop out at the after party / You and all your friends, yeah, they love to get naughty," he says with catchy warbles.
Makes sense that he's supposed to join The Weeknd on his upcoming After Hours tour.
In between hitting damp, dimly lit roads in vintage sports cars or possibly a Tesla Cybertruck, Toliver, guided by the auto-tuned sounds of his mentor, tries to seriously reflect on the ups and downs of life as a young, rising star. "Well, what brings you to church this evenin'? / Fightin' love, fightin' hate or you're fightin' your demons?" he asks on "Heaven Or Hell Intro."
But when he's not channeling too much introspection in hopes of appearing as mysteriously reserved as PARTYNEXTDOOR, you can tell that Toliver is pretty pleased with how things are moving. Here he is on "Cardigan": "I thought I was a goner, blessed to your honor / Burn marijuana, deep down in designer / Hotter than the sauna, I met her at Salata."
