Akon is defending 6ix9ine in light of the rapper's cooperation during his recent federal trial. 🤔

Akon remains one of the few people to support 6ix9ine and his controversial decision to expose the inner workings of the Nine Trey Gangsta Bloods gang in return for a reduced prison sentence.

During a Thursday conversation with radio host DJ Whoo Kid on Instagram Live, Akon referred to 6ix9ine as his "lil man" and said that he doesn't blame the rapper for working with authorities and taking the stand against his fellow gang members.

"He had to literally decide, 'What's more valuable to me? My family, my future,'" Akon said. He added, "You have to make a decision that's going to better you."

Akon was also quick to remind viewers of 6ix9ine's young age, claiming he probably didn't know what kind of people and situations he was really messing with.

"Now me and you, there ain't no excuses, because we been through the trenches, we understand what that is. We can't do that and get away with it – we just can't, because we know better," he said, highlighting the better understanding him and Whoo Kid possess given their life experience.

He also questioned why 6ix9ine was even forced into "snitching" in the first place, suggesting that his "homies should have took that for him." Akon added, "He's the football, you always protect the football."

If nothing else, at least Akon is consistent.

The 47-year-old entertainer made similar comments in a 2019 Capital Xtra interview in which he said 6ix9ine "comes from a generation that really had no moral ethic." Another familiar comment was that people "really can't blame him, if what he's saying is the truth."
