Jamie Foxx’s Electro Close to Joining the MCU in ‘Spider-Man 3’

Originally appearing in 2014’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Jamie Foxx is reportedly returning to the silver screen as Electro in Spider-Man 3 starring Tom Holland, marking his Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) debut.

Per The Hollywood Reporter, Foxx is nearing an agreement with Marvel Studios and Sony Pictures. He was previously pitted against Andrew Garfield in the final edition prior to Sony’s decision to give Marvel permission to introduce the web-slinger into the MCU via the Avengers franchise.

On the flip side, Sony was able to feature big names like Robert Downey Jr. in its separate Spider-Man installments. Somewhat slow box office results ($708.9 million worldwide) and the infamous Sony hack were the main drivers of that shocking deal.

Details surrounding the upcoming plot are few and far between, but THR mentions the move “is a stunner as it shows a further melding of the previous Spider-Man movies into the current Holland series, which is the first one that has Marvel running point on production.”

Fighting Spidey as far back as 1964 as one of the members of the Sinister Six supervillain group, also including the leader Doctor Octopus, Vulture, Mysterio, Sandman and Kraven the Hunter, Electro was sparked in The Amazing Spider-Man 2 when Max Dillon, an engineer at Norman Osborn’s Oscorp factory, experiences an accident with a vat of electric eels.

Pending zero delays, the movie is scheduled to arrive on Dec. 17, 2021.
