Jaden Smith and New Balance are offering a first look at their forthcoming shoe collaboration. 👀
While his parents are busy unpacking a past "entanglement" in public view, Jaden Smith is doing his best to become an "icon living" by unveiling his first signature shoe with New Balance, dubbed the Vision Racer.
Coming in a “Wavy Baby Blue” colorway, the shoe features a super chunky midsole supporting a mesh-and-suede upper subtly emblazoned with Jaden's motto, "((VISION))," which also appears in pink under the translucent outsole.
It's the first release from the pair since they announced their partnership about a year ago involving not only sneakers but also a growing focus on community efforts, like delivering water filtration systems to Flint, Michigan, and donating food and clothing to the homeless in Los Angeles.
Fans of the 22-year-old creative know he loves his New Balances, especially the 1700 and X-Racer, and these styles influenced several elements of the Vision Racer.
Along with the "((VISION))" branding, other unique design points arrive in the form of a huge heel tab, Jaden's signature on the insole and hi-vis reflective material near the quarter panel.
Capturing Jaden's passion for sustainability, the shoes are constructed with an array of recycled, vegan-friendly materials, including polyesters from post-consumer plastic, recycled rubber and foam, and castor bean oil.
Leading up to the release of these kicks, Jaden participated in a two-day "sneaker school" tutorial at a New Balance factory in Maine.
"It's extremely difficult; it's very hard to do," he told Complex about the process of putting together footwear. "I was not expecting how hard it is just to stitch a shoe together."
The Vision Racer will drop online and in select stores this Friday, July 17, with a $150 selling price.
