'Coming 2 America' starring Eddie Murphy, the long-awaited sequel to the classic 1988 comedy 'Coming to America,' has finally received a release date and a streaming partner.

Per Variety, Amazon Studios is in the final stages of acquiring the movie from Paramount Pictures for a reported $125 million or so, with an expected premiere date of Dec. 18.

While Paramount was planning on releasing the movie in theaters, the coronavirus pandemic forced them to go the streaming route.

Sources claimed that a pair of brand deals with McDonald's – Prince Akeem (Murphy) worked at a fast-food restaurant called McDowell's – and whiskey producer Crown Royal will also trade hands as part of the deal, though Murphy and other leading cast members still need to approve.

The plot of 'Coming 2 America' builds on the original with Prince Akeem of the fictional nation of Zamunda getting ready to assume the throne when he discovers that he has a son named Lavelle living in Queens, NY.

To fulfill the dying wish of his father, King Jaffe (James Earl Jones), Akeem and his best friend Semmi (Arsenio Hall) must return to the United States to locate Lavelle and school him on his royal bloodline.

One unexpected addition to the cast is Rick Ross, who revealed to HipHopDX back in August 2019 that one of the scenes was being shot at his monster Atlanta "estate," formerly owned by boxer Evander Holyfield. Viewers will see Rozay appear in a "small role."
