Apple Debuts 4 New iPhone 12 Models and MagSafe Wireless Charging Option

entertainment /

During its “Hi, Speed” live stream on Tuesday, Apple offered the first look at its next-generation iPhone 12 arriving in four different models: a Mini, Standard, Pro and Pro Max.

Design-wise, one of the most notable revisions is that each iPhone 12 model will feature flat aluminum edges similar to the iPad Pro and iPhone 4. Mini and Standard color options include black, white, blue, red and green.

The Standard style iPhone 12 uses the familiar 6.1-inch display found on the iPhone 11, but this time the screen is set to tout OLED rather than LCD. Two rear cameras, each supporting Night Mode, sit on the back.

Meanwhile, the 6.7-inch screen on the Pro Max is the biggest on the iPhone ever. Size doesn’t necessarily matter, though, as the Mini, with its 5.4-inch screen, has many of the same specs as the Standard model.

For chronic screen-crackers, each iPhone 12 will also come equipped with a new “Ceramic Shield” glass cover that supposedly enhances durability.

The entire iPhone 12 collection can connect to 5G networks, like the one revealed by Verizon CEO Hans Vestberg. If your activity doesn’t require 5G speeds, a new “smart data mode” automatically reverts to LTE. Hello, future!

Wireless MagSafe charging is making a comeback in the form of pads after being retired from MacBook. There’s a MagSafe Charger for single-device charging and a MagSafe Charger Duo for two devices.

Apple is taking steps to reduce its environmental impact as well, disclosing that the iPhone 12 will ship without wall chargers and Lightning EarPods, leading to the carbon emissions equivalent of removing 450,000 cars from the road annually.
